Q1. What did you want to be growing up?

Dolphin trainer, that is, until I decided all of the dolphins should be free.

Q2. Tell us all about you and the story of how you have gotten to this point in your life?

I’ve always been a writer. Since childhood, that has been the one constant thing I have continued, so writing books was always part of my big plan. Also I have always been an entrepreneur and like most of us who are, our stories start with lemonade stands and babysitting clubs. I started a babysitting business and targeted all of the moms at a local pool club. I walked around handing out my business card. It’s no wonder I ended up where I am now!

I thought I wanted to work in politics and came really close to moving to DC, enrolling in grad school there, and pursuing a career in public policy. Looking back, I think politics would have chewed me up and spit me out. I sort of fell into being a divorce lawyer. I started taking cases when I worked for a general law firm and quickly learned that this area of law was so much more than legal arguments. It was about people and helping them see the possibilities of a happy even after even though life threw a plot twist their way. When I opened my own law firm, I had my ideal job. I could run, grow, build a business while helping people.

When I got divorced myself, my professional and personal worlds collided and I shifted my focus on how to help people shift their mindset in order to reinvent their life after divorce. I launched a podcast and online divorce education program, so that I could help all women, not just those in my state.

Q3. What do you think are the three biggest mistakes women make when it comes to achieving their goals?

Tell themselves that they will start when they have more time or when the kids are older or when the time is right.
Let fear of the unknown paralyze them into inaction.
Don’t ask for help.

Q4. What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?

I have had so many rejections and I’ve fallen on my face so many times. All of those bumps, aren’t failures. They are opportunities to do something bigger and better. My failed marriage was an opportunity to find my purpose, to start writing again, and to establish a beautiful co-parenting relationship with my ex. Those are the little things which are so much more meaningful to me than any award I’ve won.

Q5. Tell how you process work load stress or personal stress or just to much coming at you at one time? Ex: Exercise, Meditation, Journal or all the above. What is your Personal Process?

My process is always evolving. Sometimes I’m in my masculine energy of hustling and being a taskmaster and sometimes I’m much more in tune with my feminine energy of flow and creativity. I let myself show up exactly the way I’m feeling because both are useful.

Reading, writing and movement are my happy places. It’s where I step away from electronics and the “to do” list and am completely present in the words I’m typing, the book I’m reading, or the way I’m moving my body.

Q6. Do you have any beauty secrets?

I take care of my skin. My nighttime routine is almost comical, but I think beauty is all about being comfortable in your own skin.

Q7. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming successful?

Absolutely. Just keep going. You will fail more than you succeed. Don’t let that stop you. Keep creating, taking risks and continue to move forward to the next best thing.

Q8. If you could speak to one woman from history, who would it be?

Jane Austen because her writing is so poetic, yet is so feisty and sassy. I would love to hang out with her and ask her what her writing process looks like.

Q9. What are you currently working on? Any future collaborations you want to share?

My divorce course, “the d·course” recently launched.

I’m building an affiliate campaign where I pay my affiliates half of the cost of the course for every sale through their link.

Example: The course sells for $299 so that would be $149 to the affiliate (unless they use a coupon code and then it would be half of the reduced price).
