She is another Diva in my upcoming book, “Empowered Women that Empower Women- Vol 1″📚 When we did our interview, 4 years ago,  Spa Girl Cocktails @spagirlcocktails had been a brand in the making for over a decade, officially launching in 2017. Spa Girl welcomed entrepreneur Alisa Marie Beyer into the role of CEO a few years back, which has been such a win for the entire brand.

Karen met her Spa Girl team in 2019 and adores each and everyone of them.  With Covid challenges for young companies it has made them become even more creative as a brand as well as form a inseparable bond as a team.  The challenges hasn’t stopped them at all.  They are having a blast creating these beautiful low calorie cocktails, which is exactly what Karen wanted to do in her company. 

Since that time, Karen has evolved so much in all areas and the explosive growth is absolutely beautiful.  Now we are updating her questions that are designated for the book launch, but I had to share a sneak peak of our spectacular interview.

Q1.   What did you want to be growing up?

At the age of eight, I decided I wanted to be a flight attendant.  I was fascinated with travel and wanted to see the world so at age 20, I began this journey. I would not trade my experiences for anything in the world. I was very fortunate to travel as a young woman and got to see how the world works outside of my comfort zone. I also had the privilege of seeing some of the most beautiful countries and cites in the world that have influenced my life and helped define my style. Plus, dealing with the traveling public, I learned the importance of customer service, how to listen, be gracious, and take control of a situation.

Q2.  Why did you create Spa Girl Cocktails?

The inspiration behind the brand came from my desire to create refreshing vodka martinis with a twist. I was focused on creating a product that was great tasting, but it was also important to make it guilt-free by reducing the number of calories. I felt there was a true need in the spirits industry where you could offer high quality, high proof, low calorie martinis to consumers and that was my motivation. 

Q3.  I know you have incorporated your experience in travel and years of hospitality to develop your cocktails. What is the concept behind Spa Girl Cocktails and how is it made?

Spa Girl Cocktails is born from a lifestyle that captures an irresistibly feminine yet timeless lifestyle that is chic, sexy, and always in good taste. I never lose sight of the women who continue to inspire me – grandmothers, mother, aunts and daughters – I created Spa Girl Cocktails in the spirit of those who always choose to embrace life and pursue every adventure in the company of true friends.  At a young age, I learned how to celebrate the joys of life with people you love and wanting to make every moment beautiful and memorable.

Q4.  You are a woman of many trades, what motivates you to keep pressing on?

I built Spa Girl because I truly believed there was a need in the spirits industry for a low calorie, great tasting cocktail option. While there were a few products in the market, I was confident I could improve the quality and product and succeed. This confidence drives my passion and motivation to make Spa Girl Cocktails a success.

Q5.  What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

My greatest fear is not succeeding and reaching my goals. I recite this famous quote by Franklin Delano Roosevelt daily: The only fear is fear itself. This helps guide my journey on a daily basis. I know that it is easy to get caught up in things but I constantly remind myself that I must go forward and not let fear stand in my way.

Q6.  What is one of your most treasured accomplishments?

My beautiful children, husband, family, and friends are my most treasured accomplishments. They are always by my side, with their support, love, and guidance.

Q7. Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming successful?  To what do you most attribute your success?

In my opinion, there is not one formula for success. I believe it comes from having a great idea, implementing the right team, working hard, and having confidence. This journey has not been easy but it has been fun and rewarding.  I spent many hours doing research, testing recipes and talking to people before I could start my business plan.  And even with the right foundation, I had to adjust my plan along the way as I learned more about the industry and our consumer. Building a brand is exciting and I look forward to continuing to learn.

Q8. If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

There are so many people I would love to talk to. If I had to pick one, it would be Diana Vreeland. She was a columnist and editor for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue and a true pioneer in the fashion world. I love her story and style; she made a true mark in the fashion industry and influenced who I am today.

Q9. Who has been your greatest inspiration?

My grandmothers have been tremendously inspiring to me. They were two of the most beautiful and strong women I have ever known and could not have been more different from one another. My paternal grandmother was very elegant; she had the most incredible style, she entertained beautifully, she would lunch with her girlfriends and drink martinis.  As a family we would spend every Sunday together and dine in her garden.  

My maternal grandmother could rule the world! She was widowed before I was born and continued to run a 250-acre dairy farm in Ohio until she was in her 70’s.  She lived in a 100-year old farmhouse where I would spend all my time in her garden, in the barns, and in the attic trying on all my aunts’ old prom dresses. She taught be to be strong and that I could do anything I set my mind to.  Her passions were gardening and cooking, she had a fabulous collection of crystal, china and silver that I have today.

Q10. What has been your most satisfying moment as a female entrepreneur?

There are few female-owned companies in the spirits industry. The barriers to entry are very difficult when introducing a new product and brand into the market, especially a product like Spa Girl Cocktails. I have been told “no” many of times that I cannot keep count, but those rejections made me work harder and not give up. Since that time, I have had several major wins and moments that have be so proud. One particular moment that I will never forget was, I attended a large general sales meeting with the president of a distribution company. He was in front of his team and was speaking so enthusiastically about Spa Girl Cocktails and how excited he was to bring this beautiful brand and product into their portfolio. This put a smile on my face and made me realize that you cannot stop when you receive “no” and it is the small victories along the way that keep me going.

Q11. What are your hobbies?

I love all types of music, travel, design, and would absolutely entertain everyday if I could. I constantly have a project going on and one that I really enjoyed was in 2017!  My husband and I remodeled a house and built a recording studio called Pink Satellite Studios in Joshua Tree, California.  Life is never dull and I would not want it any other way!

Q12.  Please share with our tribe of Women, one piece of advice you have received which has helped you throughout your journey?

The most profound advice I have ever received is be authentic, be yourself, and create your own future. You are the only one that can do it and by doing so you can live dreams through your journey. I pull from and I am inspired daily by the beauty in world.
